Statement
My vision for my work comes from my life experiences and desire to create. I see my creative direction in several forms. I am a self-taught artist and create mixed media abstract art and focus on acrylic and resin both on wood and canvas. My initial works are concentrated on larger scale pieces from 36” x 48” up to 36” x 80” at present. Even larger pieces are planned in the future as well. Although most of my work to date is on the larger scale, I am also working on a series of smaller pieces along with multiple canvas/wood panels (triptych, diptych) creations.
My artistic process starts with colours and mental images. When I see
the colours, I wants to use, I will then decide on one or more
techniques and processes to form a rough image of the result. With this
process, which will always result in unexpected and unforeseen outcomes,
I create an expectation of my vision. The one constant in this type of
art is that I am continually learning from each process used and find
the outcome is never the same. The composition of the piece will change
many times throughout the process until the desired outcome has been
achieved. This will also result in just scrapping the entire piece, scraping the canvas and starting over. Art is always subjective in the
eyes of anyone who views it. One of the things I most enjoy about
showing my art is the unique and personal visions that the viewers see.
Because of this my vision is ever changing and helps me create many
different and varied pieces.
I hope that when people view my artwork they connect with a vision and an emotion that are personal to them and to the piece. In the brief period of time that I have been creating art, the positive responses have emboldened me to follow my passion and continue this journey. I look forward to showing my art in upcoming venues, festivals, and galleries throughout BC and beyond.
